Swimming and Waterpolo are exciting but expensive sports! We are raising money to support our club and make it accessible to all. Your donations will contribute to equipment costs, such as new water polo balls, and travel expenses to help us get to competitions such as BUCS league matches.
UYSWC is the combined water polo and swimming club for the University of York. We consistently have over 75 members as part of three different teams: water polo, competitive swimming, and swim for fitness. We compete in different competitions annually such as BUCS, BUSL, and of course: Roses! We are often shortlisted for awards, and in 2021 won both Charitable Club of the Year and Team of the Year!
We train 12 times between both sports every week and often have a game per week as well. This is a major commitment for our members especially when travel is accounted for. Our teams work hard and put in effort year round to make the most of their opportunities and it usually pays off. We have had record breaking performances across both disciplines this year and we would love to support this progress.
Your support would help to recognise this effort from our athletes by helping them with the financial boost they need. We would really appreciate all and any donations, and believe every little can make a difference.
Unfortunately, Swimming and Waterpolo can be very expensive sports. Much of our budget goes towards coaching and facility hire, leaving little for other costs such as travel and equipment. Just £36 could get us a set of new water polo balls for our teams, who have been outstanding this year. The women’s polo team has won every BUCS game this season and the men’s have scored over 300 goals in just 11 games, not to mention both teams won at Roses!
Additionally, we frequently have swimming competitions in Sheffield and the polo teams have travelled as far as Newcastle to play games. This amount of travel is costly and as a club we try to take most of the financial burden, however it is rare we can cover everything. If we don’t meet our goals or we have extra money, we will aim to put it towards this cause.
Our overall goal is to raise £800. This is the amount we spend annually to hire officials - a BUCS requirement for our matches to count. We will aim to split this money equally between officials and transport to alleviate the strain on both expenses.
This means there is a financial barrier to accessibility in our sport, which we need your help to overcome. We would love for everyone to be able to attend competitions, regardless of their financial situation, and therefore supplementing our travel money would be an amazing gift. We really appreciate all and any donations you can make for our club, thank you for believing in us!
Swimming and waterpolo are essential sports. They have both physical and mental health benefits, and help to enrich university life with a community of athletes. We would love to make this a community that is available to everyone to partake in.
Unfortunately, these sports can be costly before you even begin, from buying equipment to train with and costumes to race in, swimming and waterpolo can be difficult to access.
As a club we would love to make it as accessible as possible by lowering any costs our members may accumulate during their time here, whether that be transport or competition entry fees. This benefits us as we can unlock the abundance of talent here at York, and benefits our members as they join the community at UYSWC and make lifelong friends.
Additionally, we think our athletes deserve to train with proper equipment. Our members dedicate their time and effort to attending training sessions year round, and give their all at matches for their well deserved success, and in return we would love to help them with proper equipment. The start of this would be new water polo balls, but it could include parachutes for swimming resistance training as well. This is all down to you as a donor, to help our club, and support our athlete’s success.
