Rugby (Women’s)

£3,442 has been raised from 110 donors.

We’re UYWRUFC and we would really appreciate your support by making a donation today as we work to develop our skills and beat Lancaster at Roses! If you would like to support us further please share our Challenge Week page to help us reach our goal.

Our Story

The women’s rugby club here at York is one of the oldest women’s rugby clubs in the country. 40 years ago we were part of the first governing body in the UK for women’s rugby and today we are just as committed to growing and sharing the sport as we ever have been.

Each year we welcome in more members than the year before and have always worked to provide development opportunities to all of our members, regardless of ability. Last year, for the first time, we played with a third team at Roses and we are so excited to do so again this year with the help of this Challenge Week funding.

Rugby is an expensive sport to run and in particular our constantly growing club gets more expensive each year. In order to provide every member with playing opportunities and effective coaching to help them play safely, we need to have the funds to support transport and our lovely coaches.

With even a few small donations we can offer friendlies and improved coaching to our newest members in time for them to develop as players in the run up to Roses.

Your support is vital to the growth and the development of our club and we are so excited for all of the opportunities it will provide us in the next few months.

Where will the money go?

Our fundraising goal for this Challenge Week is to raise £3,500. With £3,500 we could provide our club with a third coach and up to five away fixtures.

The money that we raise will be used to develop and promote our new 3XV team in the run up to Roses this year. It would cost us around £500 for us to transport one team to an away fixture for friendlies between now and Roses. With any additional funding we can also extend this opportunity to our other teams as effective training for the competition.

We also currently have two coaches across the 70 active members of our club. To provide a third coach in the run up to Roses and across the weekend would cost approximately £1,000.

Why is this so important?

This funding is about giving every player the chance to develop their skills no matter their playing level or circumstance. Rugby is so important in building confidence and bonds that will last beyond the pitch.

With Roses approaching, we want to ensure all players, including our newest members, have the opportunity to compete and grow. A third coach would improve training quality and player safety, while covering travel costs for development games ensures no one is held back by finances.

Last year, our 3XV came so close to victory at Roses. With professional coaching and pre-Roses friendlies, we know they can go even further this year. Your support can make that happen!
