Double your donation: donor matchfunded £500

£2,638 has been raised from 109 donors.

We are raising money to buy new equipment for the club, so that we can keep our players safe, and allow for our sport to continue to grow and expand at York. Any donation you can make to support this would be massively appreciated!

Our Story

The York Centurions were founded in 2008, and since then, have grown year on year to become one of the biggest teams on campus. Over the last 5 years, we have reached BUCS playoffs on multiple occasions, and continue to work towards our goal of promotion, and winning the Northern championship. In recent years, we have lost at Roses twice, so are looking to get funding towards improving the quality of our training sessions to put us in the best position possible to win this year. Our improvement over the last few years has been noted by the wider sports community at York, having one of the best attendance figures at our game at Roses last year, as well as being nominated for a number of awards at the most recent Colours Ball, with our Head Coach Tom Prosser winning Coach of the Year.

We are aiming to complete challenges that reflect various aspects of American Football: Versatility, Mental Endurance, Physical Endurance, Strength and Discipline. By completing the challenges we have set ourselves, we are not only improving our abilities within the sport, but demonstrating how committed we are to consistently improving to be the best that we can be. This mentality is what will allow us to use the money raised from Challenge Week to continue to improve the standard of our training and facilities, and in turn improve the quality of our athletes and improve the positive impact that the sport has on their lives. We would be massively appreciative of any donation you can make to support our club in our efforts to continue to develop.

Where will the money go?

The money from your donations go to improving our player and training equipment - we are aiming to buy multiple sets of new pads and helmets, not only to replace current sets that have degraded through wear and years of use, but to continue to expand our current inventory of kit.

£3000 would enable us to buy 10 new sets of pads and helmets, which is our main goal. If we raise less than this, we can reduce how many sets we buy, and spend whatever excess we have on training equipment, such as new tackling bags or funding players to go on coaching courses.

Why is this so important?

Having access to more kit will increase the number of players we are able to properly kit so they can take part in the sport at a full capacity safely. Having better quality player equipment means that our players are going to be as safe as we can make them, which is of profound importance to us.

Improving the quality of training by having better equipment or a greater number of coaches means that players will consistently grow and improve, and get the most out of the sport. We all love playing and so the more we can ensure players are having a good time and enjoying their training, the better the impact we have on their overall university experience, especially with the new players that we take on each year.

The Challenges

Below are some of the challenges we will complete as part of the week:

  • 7 Lineman will catch 7 consecutive punts every day for 7 days
  • 4 players will aim to run 7 marathons in 7 days
  • 4 players will attempt to watch the highlights of all 272 2023 NFL season game highlights in one continuous sitting
  • As a team, we will collectively push a 50KG sled the length of 100 football pitches
  • Members of our committee will do a ‘Say Yes’ day for 24 hours, where they will be completing challenges set for them via donation messages, with the stipulation that they cannot talk to each other for the whole time
