Volleyball

£5,060 has been raised from 74 donors.

We are aiming to raise £5,000 to keep volleyball at the University of York affordable, competitive, and inclusive. Particularly, we need to fund top-tier coaching to increase our chances at securing 4 big wins for Roses. As well as to cover transport for our BUCS fixtures, provide essential equipment, and finance any additional court time that is required. Every donation, big or small, helps our athletes thrive!

Our Story

The University of York Volleyball Club (UYVC) is more than just a sports team, we are a community, a family, and a place where passion for volleyball thrives. For years, we have welcomed players of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced athletes, offering them a space to grow, compete, and find lifelong friendships.

This year, our Women’s 1st team made history by qualifying for the finals of the Student Cup. They traveled to Norwich, where they battled through two long days of intense competition, pushing their limits, fostering their competitive edge, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Meanwhile, our Men’s 1st team is also making waves, steadily progressing through the Northern Conference Cup. They have dominated the competition so far, making it to the semi-finals without dropping a single set, and they are predicted to make it to the finals. The dedication and resilience shown by our teams embody what UYVC is all about: determination, teamwork, and a relentless passion for the sport

With members from over 20 nationalities, our club represents the diversity and inclusivity that makes volleyball so special. We are proud to be part of one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and we strive to make it as accessible and affordable as possible. No student should be held back from playing the sport they love because of financial barriers.

Please consider donating, every pound helps keep our players in the game and opens our resources to keep extending our community to reach more people with the benefits of our sport.

Where will the money go?

To continue growing and making volleyball as accessible and affordable as possible, we are aiming to raise £5,000 to support our club’s essential costs, competitive teams, and community initiatives.

Here’s how your donation can help:

  • £2,000 for transport and accommodation. Helping our teams travel to competitions like the Student Cup and the Northern Conference Cup, ensuring players have the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
  • £1,500 for coaching and equipment.  Covering coaching costs and purchasing necessary volleyballs, nets, and kits, so that every member—whether a beginner or an advanced player—has the resources they need.
  • £750 for accessibility and inclusivity. Subsidizing membership fees and kit costs to make volleyball more affordable for students, and supporting initiatives such as sitting volleyball tournaments to promote inclusivity in sports.
  • £750 to aid college teams in securing their essential equipment and respective storage space. Your contribution will help ensure they have the resources they need to succeed both on and off the court.

We recognize that £5,000 is ambitious, and we can only achieve it with your support. If we raise a smaller amount, we will prioritize:

  • £1,500 for transport so our athletes can still compete in major tournaments.
  • £1,000 for coaching and essential equipment to keep training at a high standard.
  • Any remaining funds will go towards inclusivity efforts and kit subsidies.

Why is this so important?

At UYVC, we're not just about high-level competition—our focus is on inclusivity, accessibility, and providing everyone with the opportunity to be part of something extraordinary. Our free weekly beginner sessions create a welcoming, supportive space for students to try volleyball for the first time and develop a passion for the sport.

Your donation goes far beyond funding equipment or travel expenses. It ensures that students stay active, develop valuable skills, and become part of a strong, supportive community. We firmly believe that financial barriers should never prevent anyone from participating, which is why we are committed to covering any subsidization costs for potential members who need it.

This year, we lost two essential training hours each week, which has limited our athletes’ development. To maximize the remaining time, we plan to invest in top-tier coaching to give our players the best possible training. Additionally, we aim to fund extra training sessions specifically for our postgraduate students. Due to scheduling conflicts between court time and lab hours, their access to training has been significantly impacted, and we want to ensure they have the opportunity to succeed.

Your support can make all the difference. Together, we can help every student reach their full potential.
