Double your donation: donor matchfunded £350

£1,227 has been raised from 47 donors.

As one of the fastest growing sports on campus, we are raising money in order to provide court space and equipment for our rapidly growing numbers. We are incredibly passionate about introducing our sport to new people, and Challenge Week will help us to achieve this! Our fundraising goal is £3000, to provide court space, equipment and funding for our new development squads, and ensuring that volleyball remains accessible to over 200 students at York!

Our Story

We are the University of York Volleyball Club! With 46 elite university team players across four teams, over 120 college players and 60 players taking part in our weekly beginner sessions, UYVC is one of the largest sports clubs at York!

Our club prides itself on our welcoming environment, our connection to college sports, our diversity, and our strong history of success within BUCS sports! We have four University teams, two per gender, who battle it out every week representing the white rose!  Every college at York is also represented by a team, with some colleges even having 3 separate squads who compete every Friday afternoon to secure one of two spots for varsity! This year, Vanbrugh and James will both represent the university to face Durham’s strongest teams in March!

For the 2025/26 season, due to the loss of our main sponsor this year, this left us significantly shorter on funds than we would normally be. As a result, standard costs such as transportation to away games and extra training sessions have forced us to increase the cost of becoming a member of UYVC.

With plans to add an official Development squad this year, providing court space and equipment to so many players is very expensive. Each brand new volleyball can cost up to £100, and with transport to games, tournament entry fees and the cost of kit, a regular season often proves to be a financial challenge. Funding unlocked during challenge week will mean that we can continue to make sure that money is never a barrier to entry for both new and returning players! We would really appreciate any donations you are able to make to support us!

Where will the money go?

Our main financial aims are based on purchasing new equipment, and providing court time.

Our first priority is reaching £500, which will allow us to purchase a new bag of 6 volleyballs!

Our second goal would be to reach £1,500, which will support our entry into the Student Cup qualifiers next year!

Our ultimate goal is to secure £3,000, which will provide an entire season worth of funding for two new development squads for the entire 2026/27 season, making UYVC history!

Why is this so important?

With the cost of living rising significantly in recent years, we understand the difficulties of being a university student facing living costs, and also wanting to take part in our favourite sport! For many, especially those new to the city and university life, sport is a gateway into finding a community. What we love about our sport is its ability to bring people together!

Our goal for next year is to reduce the cost of purchasing a UYVC membership, subsidise the cost of kit, and reduce the price for both of our annual formals! This means that hopefully, fewer students will see the cost of joining the volleyball club as a barrier. Below university level, we aim to increase the amount that the club can support our new development squads with court bookings, increasing the size of our club! For beginners, challenge week funds will also allow us to keep providing our weekly free session to beginners! We love sharing our passion for volleyball with others, and hopefully, with a larger volleyball family, we will be able to stay successful at the highest level for years to come, with some fantastic memories along the way!
