Rugby Union (Women's)

Double your donation: donor matchfunded £350

£2,411 has been raised from 63 donors.

We are raising money to improve our equipment and kit for the upcoming season as well as to fund a veo replay camera to allow us to watch back and analyse all of our games. We’re raising £3,500 to upgrade our kit, improve coaching analysis with a veo camera, and support the continued growth of one of the largest women’s sports clubs at York.

Our Story

The women’s rugby club here at York is one of the oldest women’s rugby clubs in the country. 40 years ago we were part of the first governing body in the UK for women’s rugby and today we are just as committed to growing and sharing the sport as we ever have been.

Each year we welcome in more members than the year before and have always worked to provide development opportunities to all of our members, regardless of ability. Last year, for the first time, we played with a third team at Roses and we are so excited to do so again this year with the help of this Challenge Week funding.

Rugby is an expensive sport to run and in particular our constantly growing club gets more expensive each year. In order to provide every member with playing opportunities and effective coaching to help them play safely, we need to have the funds to support transport and our lovely coaches.

With even a few small donations we can offer friendlies and improved coaching to our newest members in time for them to develop as players in the run up to Roses.

Your support is vital to the growth and the development of our club and we are so excited for all of the opportunities it will provide us in the next few months.

Where will the money go?

Our fundraising goal for this Challenge Week is to raise £3,500.

Upon hitting £1500 we would be able to design and create a new kit for our 3XV. Their current kit has served the club for over a decade and is now in need of a replacement.

A further £1500 would fund a veo camera and two years of subscription to the software meaning we could always watch back games and training. This is especially important since we often cannot afford for our coaches to come to every single game.

Reaching another £200 would buy us new game day water bottles which are currently in a state of disrepair. These are used every single week by at least two teams and are a vital part of our club's equipment.

Why is this so important?

The money that we raise over Challenge Week will help to make rugby better for female athletes at York.

With most of our members picking up rugby for the first time at university, funding into better equipment, kit, and coaching is vital to creating the most valuable rugby experience for all of our players. Playing in a kit that fits right, and having access to coaches that can improve players skills at every session is pivotal to the success of us as a club and for the success of each individual that comes through it.

With a veo camera we could essentially have coaches eyes on every single player for every minute that they are on the pitch. This means we can fine tune training and provide everyone with personalised and productive feedback.

We have the numbers, we have the drive, all we need now is the funding to help us become the most successful club that we can be for years to come.
