We’re raising funds to support our brand-new Development Squad and keep netball accessible for all 50 members of UYNC during a time of rising costs.
UYNC is now both a competitive and developmental club that has 3 teams competing in National university leagues and 2 squads competing in the inaugural year of BUCS Yorkshire competitions (competing against other development squads in Yorkshire). We are so much more than just netball! We strive to create a positive environment for women at York as well as supporting charities close to our hearts. Last year, we won Charitable club of the year out of all sports clubs at York!
Our exciting new addition of a development squad this year has been super rewarding but has definitely put a financial strain on our club and athletes. We have also been strained by the large increase in transport costs as well as kit costs.
Your donations can help us to support our development squad to grow and integrate into our brilliant club as well as support our existing members through the cost of living as rising costs have led our memberships to increase.
Our main focus for the money will be our development squad. A one hour training session costs £45 to run. We would love to increase the hours of training for our devs ahead of their showcase fixture in April. If we were to have 2 hours a week until their showcase on the 19th of April, we would need £400 and this would be a minimum! The showcase itself will cost us £300.
We would also like to create a kit bank of dresses for the development squad and players who cannot afford to buy dresses for themselves. A dress costs £40 each and ideally we would like to buy 25 dresses which would cost £1000.
We would also like to help reduce memberships for all our members. This year we increased our memberships by £15 and any money we raise beyond our initial goals will help us to keep our memberships affordable.
Last year we raised £2700, this year we aim to raise £3500! This would allow us to fully support our Development Squad, build our kit bank, and reduce financial pressure on members.
This money is so important in supporting our development squad in maximising their opportunities as part of UYNC. We want our brilliant club to impact as many people as possible and supporting our Development squad does this.
In the future, we strive to be able to expand to 4 performance squads but we do not currently have the funding. We are on a slow journey towards this but this year’s Challenge Week will be a massive push towards this.
Students that become part of UYNC get more than just the opportunity to play netball. We are providing a chance to become part of a close-knit female driven community. We are the only sport at York with only a women’s team and we think this is our biggest strength! Netball helps to support our physical and mental wellbeing by establishing a space to play sport whilst creating lifelong friends.
