Hockey

Double your donation: donor matchfunded £350

£2,132 has been raised from 51 donors.

We’re raising funds to make hockey at York more accessible and sustainable, helping us purchase essential equipment, fund transport and coaching, and reduce membership costs so more students can get involved.

Our Story

We have 4 men’s teams, 4 women’s teams, a development squad, and a mixed team.

Competing in BUCS offers our members the opportunity to compete against other universities and demonstrate their talent, however, this entails significant coaching, equipment and transport costs!

We are eager to build on last year’s success at our flagship event of Roses in which we won 7, drew 2 and only lost 2 games in both indoor and outdoor against our fierce rivals, Lancaster. Your support can help us further demonstrate that Roses are white!

UYHC offers more than just competitive sport, it provides a genuinely welcoming and inclusive community. Whether you’ve played at a high level or are picking up a stick for the first time, there’s a place for everyone. For first-year students especially, joining hockey is one of the easiest ways to meet people, settle into university life, and build friendships that last far beyond Freshers’ Week. With regular socials, team events, and club-wide activities throughout the year, the club creates a supportive environment both on and off the pitch.

We would greatly appreciate any donations to help us continue building a strong community off the pitch while striving for success and high performance on it.

Where will the money go?

Your support can help us fund extra pitch time, purchase new training equipment and lower membership costs. Participating in hockey already costs a significant amount, given the necessity of protective equipment, astroturf shoes, and a stick. Reducing membership costs below the current £160 annual cost would help alleviate the financial burden for getting involved with UYHC. Your contribution can help accelerate the growth of the sport.

Our priority is to purchase more equipment, in particular a new goalkeeper kit, along with balls, protective face masks, and training aids such as rebound boards. We would also like to fund extra pitch time in the lead up to Roses. Donations will also ensure that bus transport for away fixtures remains viable, and that we can afford coaching costs.

Any extra funds will go towards saving for a new VEO camera, to enhance analysis of team and individual performances.

Why is this so important?

Along with improving our performance this year, your support can also reduce the membership costs for future seasons. UYHC provides a valued community, both on and off the pitch, and your support can help more students access this incredible network of members and alumni.

UYHC is sustained by over 30 dedicated committee members who volunteer their time and effort to ensure the smooth running of the club. The commitment shown by our committee reflects the value UYHC provides - not just as a hockey club, but as a supportive, inclusive community. Your contribution helps secure the continuity of the club and ensures UYHC remains accessible, competitive, and welcoming, for years to come.
