Handball

£2,231 has been raised from 84 donors.

We are raising money for our club to be able to fund future tournaments, new equipment and to be able to further our members' sporting development. This will greatly improve what our club is able to afford and will help us to continue our work in subsidising fees for our members as we understand the cost of living crisis has impacted everyone, and we want our club to continue to be as accessible as possible.

Our Story

Our club was founded in 2013, shortly after Handball became popular in the UK after the London 2012 Olympic games. We are currently made up of 35 members and have both one men's and one women's team.

We have worked really hard this year to make it through to our national finals (BUCS Finals), where we will face off against teams from all around Britain.

Something that is really important to our club is player development. Throughout the academic year, we look to encourage players of all abilities to join our club to develop their skills further within our sport. We look to do this through additional friendlies and tournaments, as well as our yearly calendar staples such as BUCS and Roses. We understand the cost of living crisis is extremely difficult for students, and therefore we want to extend our efforts to reduce extra costs for our members, such as travel to tournaments etc., by raising some money in order to increase how much we are able to subside.

We would really appreciate any donations you are able to make to support our club; even if you aren’t able to donate any support you are able to offer us by following our Challenge Week by joining us as an ambassador or by following us on any of our social media platforms we appreciate it! We really appreciate your support - Thank you so much!

Where will the money go?

We are aiming to raise £2,000 to support our members' sporting development. Here’s how the funds will be allocated:

  • Tournaments & Events – A significant portion of the funds will go towards covering travel costs for away tournaments and hiring venues for our own hosted events.
  • Equipment – £150 will be allocated for purchasing new equipment to improve training and gameplay.
  • Subsidising Member Fees – The remaining funds will help subsidise participation fees, making our sport more accessible to all members.

By contributing, you’ll help us provide more opportunities for our members to compete, develop their skills, and grow within our sporting community.

Why is this so important?

Taking part in Challenge Week and raising money for our club means everything to us. We started as a small university sports team, and while we’ve grown in size, our core values remain the same—community, development, and accessibility.

For many students, sport is more than just a hobby. It’s a vital part of university life, offering a way to stay active, build friendships, and support mental well-being. Our club is a place where students can challenge themselves, relieve stress, and feel part of a team. However, with the rising cost of living, affordability is becoming a barrier.

The increased costs of travel, equipment, and tournament fees, especially away tournaments like BUCS, have made it harder for us to keep our sport accessible to all. We never want finances to be the reason someone feels excluded. By taking part in Challenge Week, we’re raising funds to ensure every student, regardless of background, has the opportunity to train, compete, and grow within our sporting community.

Your support will help us continue providing high-quality training, hosting and attending tournaments and fostering an inclusive space where everyone can thrive.
