We would value your support in helping us, the University of York Women’s Football Club (UYWAFC) in raising money to support the future of our club of 36 young women. We are looking to raise £2,500 in donations, which would contribute to our travel costs, expert coaches, and looking to establish a third team. This will help the future legacy of our club, so that more young women can play, compete and thrive.
Our club is comprised of 36 girls who have a passion and love for our sport. As women’s football is a continually growing sport, we would love to be able to provide more young women with the opportunity to play, and also join our community and family. Our determination to advance our club in future years comes from our successes; two Roses wins in 2025, and the potential title win for our 1s. We would love to have continual successes amongst our two teams, and hopefully introduce a third team in the coming years. Our strong family ethos allows us to progress our two teams each year, but with your donations, we can allow more girls to play the sport that they love. Many of our players call our club their “home away from home,” and we would love for more to join our family.
With all our victories, we have also struggled in the last couple of years to find consistent coaches, and to aid travel costs. These successes are not isolated moments; they are results of years of dedication, player development, and a culture built around resilience and community. All of these characteristics of our club cannot be supported without donations from Challenge Week.
We are investing in the sustainability of women’s football at York. This includes raising the competitive standard of our 1s, and strengthening pathways between teams. We would love to increase access to high quality coaching by ensuring financial barriers do not prevent talented players from competing. Women’s football deserves equal opportunities and visibility. We would like to improve our league consistency, as for many years both teams face promotion and relegation.
Support us on the week from the 7th March until the 15th of March to champion our women’s sport at a competitive university level. Donations would be supporting a club that is already highly performing, but not always consistent. With the correct support, we can make the necessary moves towards more sustainable successes.
We have the ambition and upward trajectory to advance our club. With additional support, we can propel our recent successes into constant successes for women’s football at York.
We are raising funds to strengthen and sustain the success of UYWAFC by financing two qualified coaches, covering transport for away fixtures, and investing in new kits and essential equipment. With rising facility costs and no new kit since 2023, financial support is vital to ensure our players can compete at the highest level we can.
Last season, our 1s travelled to Newcastle and Durham on four different occasions throughout the season. With coach costs being so high, this set us back. A goal of £2,500 will allow us to fund up to half of transport costs for both teams away fixtures for the upcoming season. This will enable us to focus on securing new kits and cover coaching costs at the beginning of the new season.
In summary, your support will directly impact various aspects of our club, from covering travel expenses and strengthening existing teams to hiring coaches and expanding our squad. By investing in UYWAFC, you are not just supporting a football club; you’re investing in the growth, development, and success of women’s football at our university.
Funding for UYWAFC would have a meaningful and lasting impact on both our members and the future members of our club. While financial support would allow us to invest in coaches, transport, and equipment, the true value lies in how it would enhance our overall student experience. We experience many exceptional players who cannot afford to play, due to the high costs which fund travel, and our equipment.
For many of our members, football is central to their university lives. It provides structure, routine, and a vital outlet alongside academic commitments. Securing two qualified coaches would significantly raise the standard and consistency of our training across squads. Structured, high-quality coaching enhances player development, builds player confidence, and supports both physical and mental wellbeing. It would strengthen our competitiveness in league fixtures and in the annual Roses tournament, while also reinforcing a culture of ambition and professionalism within the club. Importantly, improved performance and visibility in women’s sport contributes to broader gender equality in university sport.
As we have mentioned, for years we have been looking at providing a third team. This would allow an additional 18 players to join our family. With popularity in women’s football constantly increasing, we simply cannot keep up with the demand for our club. In 2025, we had over 100 new players looking to play for us. Due to finite spaces available, we had to turn away many quality players. Being able to provide a third team would mean increasing opportunities for those that deserve to play a sport that they have been playing since childhood.
Beyond competitive success, the club fosters leadership, teamwork, and resilience. Ultimately, financial support would not simply enhance our resources, it would strengthen accessibility, development, and opportunity. It would allow us to sustain our recent successes while ensuring that women’s football continues to be inclusive, empowering and a high-performing community for current and future students.
