Double your donation: donor matchfunded £350

£3,069 has been raised from 150 donors.

We are the UYWCC and we need your support to grow as a club and compete to our best ability! The funds raised will remove financial barriers for women and non-binary club members. Your donation will cover transport, essential match equipment and umpire fees as well as participation costs so everyone can take the field with confidence.

Our Story

The UYWCC - making cricket everyone’s game

As the University of York Women’s Cricket Club, we embody the meaning of teamwork. Built on strong values of inclusivity, ambition, and dedication we strive to create a supportive environment where every member feels welcomed, valued and confident to grow both as a player and a person. Our club is not just focused on participation, but on setting bigger goals, pushing boundaries and continually raising standards on and off the pitch which is our main aim this challenge week.

What makes us unique is that our vision extends beyond the university itself. We are keen to strengthen the wider cricket community, spreading the word with movements such as ‘Her Game Too’ and ‘Opening Up Cricket’ to show that cricket is for everyone.

Our past two years in Challenge Week reflect these values in action. We have taken great pride in achieving strong results while competing against other clubs with significantly larger memberships which demonstrates our ambition, teamwork and dedication to our club. Through these efforts, we not only challenged ourselves to go further but also successfully raised vital funds to continually grow and develop our club.

We would truly appreciate any donations you can make. Contributing to our cause keeps the spirit of cricket alive and every single one hits a boundary for the UYWCC. Thank you so much for being part of the journey!

Where will the money go?

Every penny raised through challenge week will enable us, as a club, to perform to the best of our ability and give back to the community. To build confidence we have arranged friendly matches with other universities, giving our newer players their first taste of match-day excitement, whilst sharpening the skills of our seasoned players.

To remove financial burdens for the players, the funds will cover essential costs such as transport and participation fees. In addition, these funds will help secure the future of outdoor training for the club, providing the most realistic simulation of the game. This includes outdoor nets which, in the long term, will be implemented to heighten morale outside the sports hall.

A safe, welcoming sport is important to students who might otherwise not have access to a community who lean on one another for support. University life can be stressful, and our club offers a separate place where people can take a break. When most people enrol they don’t realise how overwhelming the pressure of work can be, so building friendships and ensuring students have that safe space is our priority.

Why is this so important?

Our goal is £4,000 this challenge week! This is how your donation will help:

💷£250 - covers essential costs, including umpires and match balls

💷£500 - helps fund extra training sessions with coaching

💷£1,000 - would subsidise for transport to away matches in different locations, including Scotland

💷£2,500 - allows us to host outdoor friendlies, preparing us for major competitions like Roses

Every amount raised (big or small) will make an incredible difference and help us to provide opportunities for everyone who joins our club! Thank you for supporting us, every donation brings us closer to creating a stronger, more inclusive cricketing community.

The Challenges!

Below are some of the challenges we will complete as part of the week:

⛰️Yorkshire three peaks: A gruelling test of endurance as we take on Yorkshire’s most challenging hills, pushing ourselves physically and mentally.

🏰York City walls relay race in full kit: With pads and helmets, we will complete the circular route of the city walls.

🚅Platform roulette: Come with us to spread the word around the north, with a random location selected and a select amount of challenges to finish!

🏅Daily mini challenges: From blindfolded cricket to skipping rope targets, these will keep us on our toes and keep the momentum going.

🏃‍♀️Alumni distance challenge: A set distance will be travelled across the week, which alumni can also be involved in by tracking their own steps to contribute to the total!

We are always active on our instagram where the challenge timetable will be posted. As well as this, leaderboards and results will be available for everyone to see so follow us @uywcc to stay up to date!
