We are raising money this year to transform the cricket experience on offer to students at York. We want to undergo a much-needed overhaul of our training equipment and to provide a high level, specialist ECB coach to assist us in our development as a team. Any donations you are able to make to help us achieve this will be much appreciated.
Cricket and Yorkshire have an historic connection and one that runs deep within the university. The UYMCC has been an integral part of sport at York since the University’s inception. We have 3 teams who compete in the Universities competition (BUCS) and in Roses. We were awarded Roses Club of the Year after a dominant performance in the first Roses since Covid in 2022.
The UYMCC caters to a wide-range of students at York, including those who have had a life-long affinity with the sport and those who are taking it up for the first time at university. In order to keep providing such a rewarding experience for our members, we need to be able to provide high quality training sessions, through both equipment and coaching. This year we have been unable to fund a specialist coach due to costs. This follows on from last year in which we required contingency support from YUSU in order to keep the club afloat. This is something we desperately want to avoid again.
Your donation will enable us to ensure that every member, regardless of ability and circumstance, will be both able to participate and improve their cricketing skills.
To contract a Level 4 ECB coach for our winter training programme, it would cost us in the region of £3,000-£3,500. If we raise more than this then we would look to invest in long-term, once-in-a-generation capital equipment to sustain the club for the coming years. For example new indoor mats (£800 each), an outdoor batting cage (£2,500), cricket kit for those who do not and could not afford it (£750 in total), an automatic ball feeder for our BOLA bowling machine (£400).
Cricket has long been seen as an elitist sport and we want to make this sport accessible to everyone regardless of ability, socio-economic background, race, or sexuality. We aim to purchase personal cricket equipment that all members can use. All members will also have exposure to high-level coaching.
Moreover, we hope this money would also help to boost the performance of the Club. We have endured some challenging years on the field, with several relegations and a triple-defeat at Roses in 2023. By employing a high-level coach, we hope to return to the top levels of university cricket.
