Badminton

Double your donation: donor matchfunded £350

£2,830 has been raised from 160 donors.

We are raising money to purchase new equipment, helping keep badminton open for all. Providing free shuttles and rackets will ensure that UYBC can continue being inclusive, providing anyone with the opportunity to play badminton. Donations will also be put towards transport costs for local leagues and facilitating the competitive aspect of UYBC so we can continue our success in events such as Roses.

Our Story

UYBC is one of the largest and most social sports clubs on campus, dating back all the way to 1965. We are extremely proud of our close-knit community. We offer both social and competitive badminton, with a recent achievement being a clean sweep win against Lancaster in all disciplines.

We are raising money to ensure every student on campus is able to play badminton, aiming to knock down barriers in relation to equipment costs that might otherwise restrict the growth of the sport we love. Donations directly equate to shuttles and rackets for everyone to use, benefiting new and experienced players.

We would really appreciate any donation that you could make. Your donations allow the club to keep running healthily, providing students with friendships, confidence, and physical wellbeing vital for university life.

Where will the money go?

The most significant way in which your donation will be used is for the purchasing of equipment.

A large part of the club’s finances go towards shuttles. One tube costs around £20, with UYBC requiring over 100 tubes per year.

Our £1500 goal will ensure that we can keep on providing these shuttles - as well as strings and rackets - for all players who attend our sessions.

As well as this, some of the £1500 will go towards transport for matches, most importantly allowing the club’s continued participation in the local Yorkshire leagues.

Finally, if our £1500 fundraising goal is exceeded, we will be able to secure coaching sessions for players on the team, facilitating UYBC’s continued high performance in competitions like BUCS and Roses.

Why is this so important?

Donations are so important as they allow the continued growth of the sport on campus, knocking down the issue of costs that might discourage some students from attending sessions.

Furthermore, money raised will help develop the competitive aspect of UYBC. High-quality equipment and coaching will allow the club to continue being successful in future competitions, ensuring that players are able to develop both physically and technically during their time at York.

Most importantly, by donating to UYBC, you are giving students across campus the chance to try something new, to build support networks for when university life gets tough, and to stay active during stressful periods of study. We really can’t overstate how much your donation means!
